Bring a piece(s) you already love, or a thrift find that could use some revitalizing. Leave with a piece dyed by you, along with a new way to see color all around.
You've got a closet with pieces you love and pieces you've stopped wearing. Something's faded, something's stained. Maybe you've thought about trying natural dye before and it felt like a whole world you'd need a class to even start in: mordants, ratios, which plants can be used? So the garment stays folded at the bottom of the drawer.
This is a hands-on evening. You'll work with two plants and come away with three possible colors: goldenrod's warm yellow, goldenrod shifted into an olive green, and madder's blush red.
What's Included
A 3-hour guided workshop, Friday September 25th, 5-8pm, in Rehoboth, MA. Your choice of 1 or 2 garments, fully pretreated and mordanted ahead of time so you're ready to dye the moment you arrive. Access to three hues from two plants: goldenrod, goldenrod-shifted-to-olive, and madder. Hands-on instruction in dyeing and folding/tying techniques, guided throughout. A small, intimate group, capped at 10. A take-home care card so you understand how to care for your new dyed pieces. Please come in clothes that are play friendly as things can get a little messy!
Feel free to bring your favorite snacks and byob
Important Note
Garments must be dropped off or shipped in by September 18th for pretreatment (one week prior, no exceptions) and should be light- to medium-weight (t-shirt/blouse/lightweight pants/light sweaters, etc) - no denim, jackets, coats, towels, or bedding. Natural Fibers Only: cotton, linen, hemp, silk, etc.
